Conversate

Project & Context

Over the course of 54 hours, at Startup Weekend UBC, our newly formed team of eight--students, entrepreneurs, programmers, and graphic designer--developed a business plan and a working prototype of an online video chat service, called Conversate.

Conversate connects local seniors in retirement homes with English language learners abroad.

Usability / Accessibility

As lead UX designer, I worked closely with the developers and graphic designer to build a product that addressed the accessibility needs of both elderly and foreign users. We began looking at existing research around seniors' web usage and potential usability issues and designed our user interface prototype to address common issues.

Our chat UI addresses the usability needs of seniors and foreign language learners.

Public Speaking

I presented the design to the rest of the 60+ participants and a panel of expert judges (Listen to an excerpt above). We won first place.

What's Next

Next steps would include usability testing and rapid iterations to refine our product.
